Taylor buys new cars and vans

Taylor University bought 12 new vehicles in the last two years, Grounds Superintendent Kerry Shanebrook, said. Shanebrook oversees landscaping around campus, as well as snow removal, trash and recycling and the motor pool.

Council approves water line repair

The town of Upland is looking to purchase new equipment to help fix water leaks and pipe bursts that have plagued the town in recent years. Upland Town Manager Jonathan Perez proposed that Upland purchase equipment and train city employees to fix pipe bursts, cracks and leaks at the city council meeting on March 4.

Bridge rebuilding leads to Main Street closure

An infrastructure project continues to reshape downtown Upland, as the Indiana Department of Transportation began working on the replacement of the bridge leading into downtown, and a series of streetscape enhancements on March 3. The improvements, aimed at increasing safety and revitalizing the town’s core, are expected to be completed by November 2025 according to an announcement on their Facebook page.

Taylor University is paying 125% more for eggs compared to last semester, Sean Wojtkowski, resident director of AVI Foodsystems, said. Egg prices have increased due to the H5 Bird Flu, or the avian influenza, which has spread throughout the U.S., impacting local businesses and consumers.

Six Taylor students have been accepted into the Orr Fellowship’s 2025 cohort. Following graduation, seniors Emma Gayed, Audrey Grimm, Ka- leb Kolpien, Kayla Malmquist, Jen- na Vander Ark and Sam Voss will join a group of 74 fellows in work- ing full-time with a variety of busi- nesses in marketing, consulting, tech and more, according to the Orr Fellowship’s announcement.

Taylor grant funds student-led service projects

In November, Taylor introduced a grant to fund student-led community service projects in the surrounding area. Wade Frances, the student body president, said this year’s cabinet is using rolled-over funds from last year. There is also a built-in service fund for next year, he said.

Exit Church to Purchase Walnut Creek Outdoors Building

Exit Church has been making arrangements to close on the purchase of the Walnut Creek Outdoors building in the next two months after its largest attendance this year held 540 people and reached into the rented building’s lobby. Once they possess the vacant store building, they will begin renovating it and officially make the transition from their current location by fall of 2025, Tyler Shirley, co-pastor of Exit Church, said.
