Students attend Winshape Foundation servant-leadership retreat

Nine Taylor students traveled to Rome, Georgia, for a Winshape Foundation retreat, led by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). This retreat took place from Thursday, April 4, to Sunday, April 7, and emphasized the importance of servant-leadership in the lives of believers. 

TUGather welcomes friends, fosters community

Alongside TUGather, the annual Taylor traditions, Grandparents Day, is set to take place April 26 with the intention of bringing generations together, according to a brochure sent out to Taylor families. Grandparents will have the opportunity to visit campus and see their grandchildren in Upland.

Rupp building vandalized with fire extinguisher

Vandals have struck the halls of the Rupp Communication Arts building.During the night of March 29, one or multiple people entered the building, pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and sprayed its contents through various sections of Rupp and parts of the Smith-Hermanson Music building.

The Echo wins awards at ICPA

The Echo staff from Taylor University traveled to Indiana University in Bloomington for the annual ICPA Awards on Saturday, April 6. The Echo staff members won a total of four individual awards. 

Smoke from Kiln triggers alarm in Metcalf

Smoke spread into Modelle Metcalf Visual Arts Center (Metcalf) on Thursday morning, triggering the fire alarms around 10:15 a.m. Students and faculty evacuated the building and waited for the fire department to check the vicinity.

Tom Jones hosts annual Halbrook Conversations

The Halbrook Conversation took place at Ayres Hall on March 19, preceding upcoming presidential elections. Tom Jones, Halbrook Distinguished Chair of civic history and professor of history emeritus, presented the information.

Gas City Music Center opens in Summer

People will no longer have to travel to Indianapolis or Fort Wayne for live entertainment — music is coming to Grant County at the Gas City Music Center this summer. 

Upland and TU partner on mural

“Welcome to Upland” — the words that travelers and members of the Upland community will regularly pass by as a part of the downtown’s new, developing mural. The design will be located on the south-facing wall of Witters Bullpen. The mural is set to be revealed on May 3, accompanied by a celebration from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at NearSpace Park — all are welcome to join in the festivities.

Renfrow fills dean position

After a four-month search starting at the end of September last year, Matthew Renfrow has been hired as Dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences. Renfrow’s predecessor, Grace Miller, had stepped away from Taylor in August to pursue a new opportunity at a sustainable agriculture firm called ECHO, Provost Jewerl Maxwell said.

Multimedia journalism is one of the fastest-growing majors at Taylor University, revealed in a staff meeting late last semester.
