On Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m., freshman Connor Phillips died in Muncie, Indiana from complications linked to pre-existing health conditions.

Phillips, 19, was found unconscious and without a pulse in his dorm room on Monday, Oct. 17 and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at IU Ball Health Memorial Hospital. Both immediate and extended family members were present with him in the hospital.

Born June 19, 2003, as the second child of Mike and Julie Phillips, Connor most recently claimed Franklin, Tennessee as his hometown.

Prior to his time as a Trojan, Phillips graduated with the class of ‘22 from Centennial High School in Tennessee. At CHS he wore jersey #7 as a lacrosse goalie for the Cougars. Investing even further in his chosen sport, Phillips worked with performance coaches from Fine Tune Lacrosse — a grassroots organization designed to turn athletes into high-level lacrosse players.

As a brother, son and peer, he will be missed by a diverse community of people.

While at Taylor, Phillips was involved in Second West Wengatz’s residential community and enrolled in the Exercise Science major, with a planned coaching minor. He committed early on to the men’s lacrosse team, signing on in January 2022 and stepping into his preferred position as a goalie — in the process, swapping #7 for jersey #10.

Connor is survived by parents Julie and Mike Phillips, along with older sister Casey — a junior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Memorial and funeral service arrangements for Phillips have not yet been announced.

When published, service details will be available at theechonews.com.
