For Javan Johnson, the dream to play collegiate golf was born in the sixth grade when he first took up the game. Fast-forward to 2023, Johnson is a redshirt senior and one of the most impactful players in Taylor men’s golf history.

Jessica Brown carries the weight of wisdom into her first season as the head coach of Taylor softball as a past player and sports administrator. A 2014 Mississippi State University graduate, Brown excelled as a student-athlete and progressed in the coaching ranks until a door opened for her to lead the Trojans.

In the 2018-19 school year, men’s lacrosse became an officially sanctioned sport at Taylor. From a team originally composed of new lacrosse players and underclassmen, Taylor lacrosse is pushing past the walls of inexperience and beginning to find success in the nine-team Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

Jason Hubbard, the pride of Miamisburg, Ohio, closed out his illustrious basketball career as a Taylor Trojan. The 6-foot-7 forward cemented his legacy by becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,479 points and establishing a single-season scoring record in 2023 with 709 points.

Taylor baseball and softball have hit a home run by beginning their respective seasons in Arizona. Since 2020, the two Trojan squads have taken their talents down southwest for the final two weeks of J-term, and the warm weather is only one of many reasons it has become a staple destination in their schedules.

Taylor women’s soccer ended their conference run on Nov. 9, falling to No. 2 Marian in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals. Although the Trojans did not finish on their own terms, they received a bid into the 2022 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship during a selection show held on Nov. 14.

Taylor University Ultimate Frisbee Club was established in the fall of 2019 by Isaac Titche (’22) and senior John Soderdahl, who plans to graduate this December. Its platform has afforded many students from varying skill levels the opportunity to create unexpected friendships in a competitive environment.

The women’s cross country team, fresh off two consecutive event wins, added to their dominant season by capturing the title Oct. 1 at the Louisville Cross Country Classic. Program history was rewritten, with the previous team time record being surpassed by 23 seconds and freshman Noel VanderWall setting an individual record time of 17:34.6.

The No. 4 women’s and No. 20 men’s cross-country teams both competed and performed gallantly on Sept. 9 at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invitational. On the women’s end, freshman Noel VanderWall led the way to a first-place finish and the Trojan men earned sixth place. Both went head-to-head with seven teams in the NAIA Coaches’ Top-25 rankings, 15 schools rounding out the women’s field and 18 the men’s.
