The Taylor Chorale will host their annual concert on Oct. 24.
Titled “The Thing with Feathers,” the concert is centered around Emily Dickinson’s poem “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers.” The concept of this show is that each piece revolves around a different type of bird. The herring, the crane, the turtle dove, the crow, and the buzzard will all make an appearance in the concert.
“The idea is that we will consider the birds by watching and listening to the stories they tell,” said Reed Spencer, Music, Theatre & Dance department co-chair and director of the Chorale. “I hope it provides a moment for people to slow down and pay attention to little things, like the birds we walk past every day.”
The Chorale hopes it will be an uplifting, joyful and hopeful concert, but that it will also be full of laughter, tears and all sorts of emotion, Spencer said.
The concert will be filled with poignancy and sweetness and will help people slow down, Spencer said.
Spencer’s hope is that audiences will not only hear a bird song, but that they will feel immersed in the experience, paying attention to the lessons the birds teach.
“We get out of something what we put into it,” Spencer said. “A group like Chorale is high intensity and high commitment, but also really high reward. When you invest in giving a gift in a profound way, what we receive from giving the gift is profound.”
Chorale invites audiences to attend and promises a new experience unlike those seen before.
