Taylor University Recognized for Grounds Maintenance Excellence

Kerry Shanebrook leads the university's grounds department.

The Professional Grounds Management Society® (PGMS®) recognized Taylor University with an Honor Award in the Society's 2022 Green Star Awards® competition. The award was given in the Educational Institutions, University and College Grounds 0-200 acres category, for exceptional grounds maintenance. In addition to the primary academic, athletic, and residential areas of campus recognized by PGMS, Taylor also has an additional 600 acres of woods, trails, cross country course area, and farmland.

The Servant’s Fountain, Taylor's newest water feature added to campus. The fountain, seating wall, and lighting were designed and installed by the Grounds Department.

Serving the profession for over 100 years, PGMS is an individual membership society of grounds professionals dedicated to advancing the grounds management profession through education and professional development. The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence.

The mission of the Taylor University Grounds Department is to maintain a diverse and healthy landscape on the campus to enhance the learning environment and provide opportunity for social interaction. This award is the 5th recognition from PGMS that Taylor has received in the last six years.

“The Grounds Department, led by Kerry Shanebrook, goes the extra mile every day to ensure that our campus environment is safe, beautiful, and encourages our students to thrive,” said Ron Sutherland, Special Assistant to the President. “We are fortunate to have a large, varied landscape that showcases the team’s skills, love for God’s creation, and concern for our community.”
