SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards
Annual awards presented by regional, national Society of Professional Journalists
For over 100 years, the Society of Professional Journalists has sought to improve and protect journalism. Each year SPJ recognizes the best of student journalism through its Mark of Excellence awards (MOEs).
MOEs are first judged regionally; The Echo competes in SPJ Region 5 (Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky) in the small schools division (fewer than 10,000 students). (The exception is the Best All-Around category, in which publications are divided into daily and non-daily categories.) Regional winners in each category advance to the national MOE competition, where they compete against one another.
