Jumping the Bean to the next level

New Bean, new items, no problem

Taylor University’s Jumping Bean will take on a new look in Fall 2026.

The need for a more extensive space and increasing demand at the coffee shop has led to the decision to move the Jumping Bean entirely, Sean Wojtkowski, resident director for AVI FoodSystems at Taylor, said.

The Jumping Bean is moving to the Calling and Career Office in the Larita Boren Campus Center, preparing for a reopening on Aug. 22, he said.

The Jumping Bean has lived on Taylor’s campus since 1997. It is currently located in front of the main doors of the LaRita Boren Campus Center. The Jumping Bean’s hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Jumping Bean is moving because of operational limitations, capacity, space for equipment, storage and flow of customers, Wojtkowski said. Taylor hopes the new space will allow students to experience the Jumping Bean more efficiently.

“The updated location is being designed to better support coffee service, expanded menu offerings, Kiosk ordering and future growth of the concept.” Wojtkowski said.

This move will not only give the Jumping Bean more space to serve customers, but a larger capacity to serve Taylor’s growing population, Abigail Campbell, junior global studies major and worker at the Jumping Bean, said.

This expanded menu includes breakfast and lunch style flatbread pizzas, along with more beverage and breakfast options.

“The Bean is going to be significantly larger next year, with more espresso machines and some menu changes throughout the day,” Patterson said. “There should be more of a grab-and-go setup and a window for students to potentially mobile order and come pick up their coffee in a window.”

With this advanced change of pace for the Jumping Bean, there will be a demand for more staff.

“There will need to be a lot more people working at the Jumping Bean in order to keep up with the additional food options and the new system,” Melody Patterson, sophomore social work major and a Jumping Bean employee, said.

With an increasing need for campus dining services at Taylor, Wojtkowski said AVI and Taylor are working to invest in efficient long-term options for students, staff and employees.

This summer, Taylor will be working to create a new and renovated Jumping Bean that will soon serve students systematically through an updated space.

“People love the Bean, and it’s time to give it the chance to move to a place that will have space to give students their coffee more efficiently,” said Patterson.
