Star-studded lineup at the 2026 Grammys

Awards showcase various art styles

A musical landscape as varied and vibrant as the artists shaping it took the stage at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The stage in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles celebrated global superstars and breakthrough songwriters. The historical and personal night reflected an industry that continues to expand beyond traditional boundaries.

One of the evening’s most significant milestones came from Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, a Puerto Rican rapper known under the stage name Bad Bunny. His album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS earned Album of the Year.

“I don’t want to be fake,” Bad Bunny said. “I’m just being me. And I have the power to break stereotypes and whatever useless rules that society puts on us … If a small-town boy like me who bagged groceries was able to make his dreams come true, you can too.”

Along with two other awards, Ocasio’s wins marked a major moment for Spanish music on a global platform. While in the spotlight, he used the opportunity to publicly denounce Immigration and Customs Enforcement: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say ICE out.”

This became a recurring topic as Billie Eilish also used the microphone to advocate for immigrants, turning her speech into a protest.

“As grateful as I feel,” Eilish said, “I honestly don’t feel like I need to say anything but that no one is ‘illegal’ on stolen land. And, yeah, it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter.”

Eilish took home the Song of the Year award for “Wildflower.” The track, praised for its delicate production and raw emotion, highlighted Eilish’s signature hushed vocals layered over minimalist instrumentation. The award marked a historic achievement as she became the first songwriter, with her brother, Finneas O’Connell, to win this award three times.

The most awarded rapper in Grammy history continued his streak in 2026, winning Record of the Year. Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s collaboration on “luther” cemented Lamar’s position as one of the most critically acclaimed artists in Grammy history, Grammy.com said. The pairing of Lamar’s sharp lyricism and SZA’s emotionally layered vocals proved once again why both artists are among the most respected voices in contemporary hip-hop and R&B.

Country music found its spotlight with Jelly Roll’s album “Beautifully Broken,” stepping into authenticity and emotional transparency with heartfelt storytelling.

Jelly Roll (Jason Bradley DeFord) started his acceptance speech differently than previous artists by publicly acknowledging Jesus and sharing his testimony. He then thanked his wife and his label.

“There was a moment in my life that all I had was a Bible this big and a radio the same size … and I believed that those two things could change my life,” he said about his time in prison. “I believe that music had the power to change my life and God had the power to change my life.”

Jelly Roll was pardoned of previous convictions on Dec. 18, 2025.

While debates over genre classifications and surprise outcomes sparked discussion on social media, the ceremony overall reflected an industry increasingly comfortable with shifting genres and art styles and cross-cultural collaboration.

Accepting the Best New Artist award to a warm applause, Olivia Dean wiped a tear from her eye as she reminded the audience how an artist is nothing without their team.

Overall, the night’s themes were represented by Dean’s closing words, “I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated. We’re nothing without each other. Thank you so much.”
