Finding a Place to Worship

Not to be confused: We ARE the Church, we GATHER as the Church and we GO to a Church!

Now that you are at Taylor, the question is, “Where should you worship?” Certainly there are many considerations in Upland, Marion, Matthews, Fairmont, Muncie, Fort Wayne and Fishers just to name a few places to look. Here are a few tools to help you find a great place to worship the Lord:

Pray! Don’t overlook the fact that you are doing something uniquely spiritual, and asking God to help direct your search is the best place to start. 1 John 5:14-15 provides a great reminder about the need to call on God for direction.

Where can you walk to? Transportation can often create barriers to getting to church. If you walk, you can exercise; get a group of friends to walk with you and get to know our local community better!

Where are your hallmates driving to? Who has an empty seat? It can be great to find a group to commute with, and you can enjoy a ride and connect with a church that is not close enough to walk.

Use technology to help you select a church. Not every church uses technology, but you can use what you find on the internet to learn about church hours, doctrinal statements, volunteer opportunities and more.

Don’t feel bad if you decide to visit a few different churches, but I encourage you not to become a perpetual church shopper. Find a place to worship and become a participant in making a difference. God can and will use you to bless other believers! Share with others your process! You can help others in their church search.

With eternity in mind,

The Rev. Greg Dyson
