Men’s Golf eyes 4th straight Conference Championship for upcoming spring

TJ Swore | Echo

Warm weather and spring break are in sight, which means the golf season is about to be in full swing.

The Taylor men's golf team was fairly successful during the fall and has hopes to be clicking on all cylinders through the spring.

"One of of our goals every year is to win the Conference Championship," Head coach Cam Andry said. "We've won the last three and this year we will face some tough competition but the goal is to win it again,"

A few younger experienced players will be stepping into the spotlight this spring. Junior Nate Morris will be one of the important pieces to the team.

"I will be trying to focus on what I can control and doing the best for the team with my work ethic and let the the results fall where they do," Morris said.

The team is led by seniors Jeremy Ray and Alec Dutkowski.

"We're leaning on them to show the way and one of my biggest hopes for this spring is to send the seniors out the right way because they have meant so much to the program," Andry said.

Before Ray and Dutkowski arrived on campus, the Taylor men's golf team's last conference championship came in 1998.

"While winning a fourth straight conference championship is a goal, we need to focus on the task at hand and getting better everyday," Ray said. "Personally, I want to bring the energy and hard work every day and set the example for our team."

Ray has really enjoyed getting to know his new teammates this year while growing closer to the guys and can't wait to play with them this spring.

The trojan men's golf team will compete in the San Antonio Shootout in Texas on March 4 and 5 to begin the spring schedule.
