Redneck relaxation

July is famous for fireworks, cookouts, fairs and most of all, heat. Long days filled with work seem even longer when accompanied by the relentless sun. It's hard to stay cool.

Relaxing in a pool is the perfect remedy for a difficult day at work, but not everyone has that watery luxury. Instead of investing hours and even days into setting up a store-bought pool, take the easy way out - build a redneck pool. Find someone with a truck, buy a gigantic tarp and lay the tarp over the bed of the truck.

The only other ingredient you need for this recipe of cool relaxation is a water hose. Fill the tarp with water, and you have a homemade redneck pool. Of course, make sure to dump the tarp water after you get done cooling off. Untreated water can contain a lot of bacteria after even just one day.

Form the outline of a fun shape with the bales, cover the shape with a tarp and secure it with a couple cement blocks. Fill the inside with water and invite some friends over to enjoy your homemade pool with you. After taking apart your redneck pool, keep the tarp around for a slip and slide. Grab a little soap and a water hose and slide your sweat away.

Homemade pools aren't for everyone and if you prefer to keep your feet on dry ground, build your own sprinkler system. It's easier than building a pool and just as effective in cooling you. Grab an old soda can and poke holes in it. Attach it to the end of your hose with duct tape, turn the water on, and sprinkle the heat away.

If you have a brave soul and prefer to spend no money at all, go exploring around your area for a backwoods river. Invite your pals, grab some towels and start searching. Find a hidden river for your own private redneck getaway. Make sure to steer clear of private property, and be careful when entering rivers. Make sure the river is completely clear of hidden debris before jumping or diving into it.

No fun memories are made sitting inside in front of the AC vent all summer. So grab some sunscreen, turn your redneck on and make memories the old fashioned way.
