Gudakunst Field dedication

By Corrie Dyke | Echo

Gudakunst Field was dedicated to the Taylor Softball program today beginning with a banquet in honor of Donna Gudakunst and her gift to the team.

"..We celebrate today this wonderful gift that will advance the softball program for many years to come," said Athletic Director Angie Fincannon. "It is a great program and one that continues to grow and build a solid and competitive tradition."

The softball stadium renovations follow an number of field upgrades the Athletic Department has made over the last year. Taylor President Eugene Habecker called the gift from Ms. Gudakunst "a wonderful surprise."

Phase I of renovations, which included a full-sized inning-by-inning scoreboard and lights stands complete. According Fincannon, Phase II will begin in May and be completed by fall. Upgrades include a new backstop and netting as well as outfield drainage. Phase III changes include a stadium with 400-plus seats and a press box. A date has yet to be determined.

According to literature on Gudakunst field, Ms. Gudakunst made her commitment to the softball program because of aligned values of hard work, discipline and a good attitude. Fincannon called Ms. Gudakunst a Christian role model and someone whom the team can look to.

"(The) gift speaks four wonderful words that will resonate with not only our softball program but within our entire athletic department...'I believe in you,'" said Fincannon.
