Marketing company opens Upland office

By Kristi Schweitzer, Contributor Oct. 26, 2012

Looking for a job?

Think First Marketing recently moved into a building on Berry Avenue in Upland. Vice President of Marketing, Kristen Raikes says they secured the space a couple of weeks ago and are glad they could find a spot in town.

"We picked the building because it's close to campus," Raikes said. "Students who don't have cars can walk here."

Think First Marketing is run by Taylor alums and strive to hire Taylor students. The company is owned by Patrick Sells, a 2012 Taylor alum.

"We're a full-service marketing agency and we have four or five departments depending on how you look at it," said junior and SEO/Social Media Director.

The departments include the marketing or account side, graphic design, web development (building websites), the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) department and the social media department.

They partner with other companies.

"We're successful when they're successful, so we very much see ourselves as partners, an extension of them," Raikes said.

Think First currently serves around 15 clients.

The companies include places that manufacture locksmith tools to a law firm to paper shredders. Some of their main clients are Domeo Products, Smooth Move Supplies, and Fellows Pro.

To raise student awareness, the company held a job fair a couple weeks ago. "We've made connections with over 25 students, for sure, of people we are going to be using in the future. We are using the 25 now and that could be growing every week," Lesner said.

Students starting to work for them enjoy their experience.

"This is a more applicable job for a resume than working at the Grill or DC," said senior Tyler Wood. "It's a good experience and valuable to start up . . . . It's been fun so far, so we'll see how it pans out."

Wood started as a social media specialist four weeks ago,.

Senior Lindsay Emery arranged with the company to use her employment as her internship.

"I was hired working under project management and will be working on interning starting January," she said.

She will be one of the first interns and the company is eager to start. "We're excited about that," Raikes said. "(Students have) those required hours built into our schedule and that works well with us in terms of reliability."

Although they have a great deal of students hired already, they are always looking for more.

"We're really looking for are hardworking competent students," Raikes said. "They don't always have to fit the mold."

Raikes added that while a graphic designer has to know Photoshop or Illustrator, there are possibilities to work alongside Think First if interested or looking for an opportunity.
